SAFE Integration Board Mobility Program

Encouragement of mobility of researchers is of great importance for integration. An exchange program will be created to permit exchanges of scientists at different levels between participating partners (for staff and for fellows)

  • Development of a program in which PhD students can spend a 1-3 months period in one of the laboratories (long term)
  • Development of a program in which staff can visit other universities/institutions for a brief period of time (short term)

Officers of the mobility program:

Peter Sedlmayr (WP1)
Renate Burgemeister (WP2)

SAFE Training Exchange Guidelines

The SAFE Training Exchange Program aims at training of researchers by exchange between the SAFE partner groups.

Per 18 months a budget of  25.000 Euro, is allocated to the program (actual figures will be available once the EC has approved the year 2 accounts). Exchange could commence as early as May 2007. Additionally, 10.000 Euro,is asked for in the new JPA 37 to 54, which could serve a second round of application in April 2008.

The money may be used to send one or more researchers to another partner's lab, where the trainee will learn a new technique. It is applicable for travel (e.g. return economy flight), and per diems depending on the country the scientist will be located (according to the guidelines of the Austrian ministry of finance). The per diems are exclusively applicable for the travelling person in order to cover accommodation and meals.

Per travel, a maximum of 2.000 Euro, can be refunded. All costs beyond this limit must be paid from the research accounts of the involved labs. The money is exclusively applicable for exchange of researchers and not transferable to other approaches.

Travel costs are refunded upon the return of the researchers to their home country. Therefore, original tickets and bills have to be submitted. To receive the per diems no invoice is required. The per diem funding might be provided in advance upon request.

The money is transferred from Warwick to Graz, from where all tickets will be refunded. 100% of the actual costs will be reimbursed. In case of financial difficulties of the travelling person, the sending institute may use its own SAFE funds to pre-finance the travel. The money will then be reimbursed to the institute account.

The Training Exchange Program will start in May or June 2007 and ends at 31 August 2008. The total remaining sum is then open for applications independent from the sum that each lab has received so far. From then, applications will be handled in order of their receipt until the end of the project on 28 February 2009. To allow for timely finalization invoices must be received by Peter Sedlmayr until 01 February 2009 to be refunded.

For this approach a brief application on the attached form sheet containing two original signatures has to be sent by postal mail before the travel is realized (especially in case of travels planned for the time after the deadline). Funding for each application will be considered on a case by case basis by the SAFE Training Exchange Program committee, comprising Peter Sedlmayr, Barbara Pertl and Andres Lopez Bernal.

Subsequently to the travel, the trainee must write a short report about the process and outcome of the training project for reporting needs.
